Talked to dr today about switching to Quad pill
« on: August 03, 2012, 09:59:23 pm »
He told me the cobicistat booster is not particularly lipo friendly. Said it may cause lipo side effects. I had not heard that yet. Anyonelse heard that.
Proably just going to stay on my Truvada/Selzentry anyways. It appears to be working, why mess with it?

Surf18 -

I just got my first set of results this week.  The CRNP who I met with was esposuing the benefits of the Quad pill as well.  She did not mention anything about lipo side effects and I specifically asked about this issue when reviewing meds with her. I am still awaiting my genotype report before I decide on meds and have an appointment on 8/13 with the ID specialist who should know a lot more about it than the CRNP.  I will make sure I bring it up on the 13th and will advise.

Blessings,

Cobicistat seems to have lipid-raising effects similar to low dose Norvir. Cobicistat is proably a little more lipid friendly.

In a recent study levels of total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides rose more with Norvir, and HDL (good) cholesterol rose more in the cobicistat arm but the differences were not statistically significant - study written up here. Not raising triglycerides is a definite plus.

Cobicistat seems to sometimes affect the kidneys. I personally wouldn't use it with tenofovir (also in Truvada) or Reyataz until whether this is an important effect has been studied properly.

Yep thats what he said. Norvir was bad but comb. was a little better in the lipo category , but only a little.
