Access to Meds - Shanghai/China

Hi All,

I am travelling to china for a few weeks.

I'm travelling with my meds obviously and a letter from my doctor for those.

I usually stock up and have a container in my suitcase as well as my hand luggage so that if there are any problems I have double what I need.

I am curious as to whether there are any members living in Shanghai or Beijing. I'm told access to medications is problematic. For the worst case scenario, as unlikely as it may be, can anyone advise of any clinics in either of those two cities so that If I run into trouble.

I'm sure you're informed, but just in case, according to HIV Restrictions: "If travelling to China on a tourist visa or short term business trip: do not declare your status on the visa application form. Historically, people declaring their status truthfully have been denied entry."

I only looked because I thought we were still restricted from entering China altogether. It turns out that was lifted for short-term stays in 2010, but we still can't get residence permits.

Yes it was a dicey proposition in terms of getting a visa, but it's a short stay and the restrictions are apparently lifted. The Visa has been granted, so I'm good to go assuming I don't run into any problems entering.

I would probably advise you give some extra meds to a dependable friend / family member that can send it to you by post. 

Also, this may be an extreme solution but you can also take a budget flight to Thailand and get meds on the cheap there if the worst happens.
