Welcome, DCGUY2007  Try POZ personals  http://personals.poz.com/ thatis the dating/hook section of Poz.com Aidsmeds is a support forum for those living with HIV. Are you +? If you are I suggest making a introductory post in the Living With section of this website. You will get more responses there...

Thanks for the feedback Dan. The poz personal site seems to be "only" for dates I would also like to find  a group of platonic friends female or male (as my post states). The moderator here moved my original post to this forum. I am assuming this is the right area. I originally had my post in another forum. Thanks for the feedback though. I appreciate it   :D

Good luck with that. I don't know of any platonic HIV friend sites.  I think that there are some members here from the DC area. Not sure who they are. Maybe one will see this and respond. So, are you +? i am assuming you are since your here. Sorry if  you are +, but I'm glad you found us. We are a diverse group here, straight, gay, bi, male, female, but we don't let those "barriers" get in the way.   I have made some of the closest friends in my life through this website. & hopefully you will to.  Eventhough I'm not in the DC area, you've made a new friend today.

Hi DC,

You can choose "friendship" in the Personals section of Poz.com.  I am a DC native, the last of a dying breed, lol.  Born in Georgetown and moving up I-270 my entire life.  LOL  I have been in Frederick with the rednecks for over 14 years now.  Welcome to the threads!

Did you used to shop at "Social Safeway" on Wisconsin?  Oh, and shop at Commander Salamander?

Philly~

I was never a Commander girl!  Didn't live IN DC, but was born there, lived in Rockville, Gaithersburg, Dickerson (right across the river from you then, yo!) and now Frederick.  I guess I figured "Commander" people were into Duran Duran and The Cure, while I was into Maiden and Priest, lol!  Used to shop at Safeway and People's Drug, lol!  Remember A&P, lmao?

Oh yeah, Commander was very "that"!  Daytime holding pen for the 9:30 Club crowd.  I had a friend who lived in Georgetown so we'd dress up for Social Safeway.  Quite the scene... and hilariously I just googled the phrase and people still refer to it by that name 25 years later.

thanks for the responses everyone. Yes I am poz. I am Gay.Nice meeting everyone. I also hope to be able to make some friends here locally too. All of my friends have either moved or are in a relationship and I don't get to see them much. So I spend a lot of time alone.

thanks again  ;D

How the fuck do you know that  :o

I lived on Wisconsin for 2 years, then moved to 19th/Q which is almost on Dupont Circle (yes I know).

DCGUY I wasn't poz when I lived in DC but I'm sure there must be hundreds of gathering for poz people. Look in the Washington Blade

There was only one group I knew of in Wash. DC. I went a number of times but wasn't impressed.  It is no big deal if no one from DC area on here is looking for friendship I will post and answer other topics here   8)

Is there not a gay community center in DC?  Oh silly me, I forgot where we're talking about.  Never mind.

Still DCGUY there must be some poz support groups in DC if you want "real life" contact to add to whatever you may find on this forum.

Guys I really appreciate suggestions.  I just thought I would post here as another avenue to see if there is anyone in the area that is also looking for friendship. There are lots of gay poz people on this site from DC so was just checking to see if anyone locally was also looking for more friends.

I had a gay relationship for 8 years a best friend for 13 years who is gone and another friend for 7 years who is now in a relaionship and I never see him. I also had a very good female friend who died last year on the operating table for minor surgery. I also had a good friend who started usiing crystal meth and Im not into this at all so we lost contact. So Im kind of starting from scratch. Thanks again for the help though. If I don't make any local friends will just keep posting and responding and make friends from other areas here on the site. ::)

Well, the problem with DC is that it's a very transient city. People come here and don't expect to stay too long, whether they are students or working for the government, so they have a hard time committing to a true friendship or relationship. They often use DC as a "second base". The DC natives and the DC transients rarely talk to each other, basically. It's a very segregated city.

So as long as you don't try to immediately make your new acquaintances feel that you want this to be a long relationship you will be fine. Lower your expectations, and be hapilly surprised when your friendship lasts.

Milker (who did make friends in DC!)

"The DC natives and the DC transients rarely talk to each other, basically. It's a very segregated city." YOUR QUOTE. I can also add  in the social gay scene the city can be pretty segregrated racially too and by age, gender and on and on.

Unfortuantely I realize the problems. These problems are there in many gay communities and straight ones too for that matter.  I have also already lowered my expectations.  I don't expect to make many friends just a few. I just used this post as another way to meet friends locally black, white, gay , bi , female, male doesn't make a difference to me as long as we have some social interest in common.

PLEASE PLEASE no more advice on how to make friends or where to go or that I need to lower my expectatios. I never said I didn't have friends before in DC. I have had long term platonic friends. As I stated the ones I have had have moved, died, or are in a relationship so I hardly ever see them anymore. Was just trying to find some friends and thought would put up a post here to see what happens.  ::)

Im glad you made a lot of friends here you are also a white guy your experiences are going to be different than mine.  8).

These issues are not just unique to DC though. I was just on a all gay cruise and I saw plenty of white guys make friends very easily with the other gays. But it wasn't as easy for me. People would talk to me if their friends werent around but as soon as their friends were around they acted  like they didn't know me at all. They would totally ignore me.  I also have heard the same responses from gay whites when they have gone to a club that is majority gay and African American. I think this is sad all the way around. I accept this though. I just keep trying different avenues for friendship and see what happens  8)

Hi DC GUy~

Just by virtue of your being here posting, people will come out of the woodwork.  I had never spoken to gay guys in my life, and I spent the entire evening here tonight, posting and having a blast!  I understand that you want to find people close by, hell I wish I could too!  I always say that everyone is under a rock in the DC area!  Do what you said, post here and interact, its really a lot of fun!  I know its not the same as walking up the street and meeting some people for dinner, but its a start.  I am always asking everyone where they live if its not in their profile.  We can all find ways to get together!

Hang in there and POST!  Go into the other threads and get to know us.  I have only been here since the last week of June, and I feel like this is home!

I expect to see you in the threads, mister!

Like you said I can have friends even if they aren't right here in DC. Who knows what the future holds. Thanks again  :D
