scared to death...
« on: March 15, 2010, 06:55:46 pm »
Good day all,

I was in China for a business trip 2.5 months ago.  During my trip, I got with a sex worker.  We used a condom, however what worried me is that the condom was a flavored condom.  we used it both for oral and vaginal.  another thing I was worried about is that the condom was surely made in China, and china is well known for making fake things...I'm afraid the condom may not be latex eithe.  Then about 5 weeks later, I got two swollen gland on my chest and one on my thigh.  The doctor in montreal told me that its inflammed and its skin infection, she gave me some antibotics, then the swollen glands went away in 9 days.

Do you guys think that I was infected? and if the swollen glands of ARS look like they are inflammed? and what if the swollen glands was related to ARS and did not respond to the antibotics but just went away by coincidence while taking the antibotics?

Please help

Flavored condoms go through the same testing guidelines as all other condoms.

Whether a condom is flavored or not is irrelevant. In all likelihood a latex condom was used. They are the least expensive and the most common ones in use. It is unlikely that a professional sex worker would be using more expensive ones like lambskin.

Any sex worker who is using condoms wants to protect herself and that means she'd be using latex.

There is nothing about your symptoms which suggests that HIV is an issue. Swollen glands happen for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with HIV.

I don't see any need for testing nor for further concern about HIV on your part about this incident.

thanks for these replies guys...

but have a couple more questions...if there involoved swollen glands symptom that is related to ARS, is it more generalized and not jsut 2 or 3 swollen glands?  Alos, are most flavored condoms made from latex and do they neccessary need to be lubricated in order to be effective?

I'm also worried bout the quality of the condom, because i looked at the wrapped its seems like its a NO NAME BRAND, and i dont think it has teh quality mark on it....and another concern is that this condom probably made in china

Ken,

If the condom broke, you would have known about it. There's nothing wrong with using a flavoured condom, no matter where it's made, for vaginal intercourse. None of these "whatiffs" you're bringing up about the condom matter as it did not break! Like Andy told you, sex workers use condoms to protect THEM from YOU and so they're not going to use something that isn't effective.

You had no-risk, protected sex with a sex worker. Get over it.

I've been thinking couple of concerns the last couple days...

are most flavored condoms (regardless where its made and brand) are latex? and what if there's holes at the tip of the condom, wouldn't that make its possible that the condom will break durring the intercourse because that part of the condom isn't stretch?

you think my swollen glands are actually due to baterial infection? or its just a coincidence that those glands recovered after 9 days of antibiotics?  im still scared...

Fortunately feelings aren't facts. We've already told you exactly what's up as far as your concern.

For you to imply we might be saying something simply to relieve your anxiety would be insulting if it wasn't simply just so ridiculous.

You were never at risk during this incident you're carrying on about. AND you are very quickly heading towards a 28 day Time Out for returning repeatedly over a non-risk. Whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with HIV.

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.
