Hello kobra83,

I live and work as a registered nurse in the states, so that is as far as my expertise can go.  Generic Atripla has not yet been made available in the states yet, so I have not had any experience with it. As far as the difference between generic and brand name medications, the only difference is the filler material they use to bind the medications together.  As long as the base compounds of Atripla are present (efavirenz 600mg/emtricitabine 200mg/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300mg), the medication should work as effectively as the brand name.  Again, my experience is in the US and based on the drug regulations set forth by the FDA.  Good luck to both of you.

What are your questions.

Here are some questions you can answer, meanwhile?

Is the combo provided by the "hospital" a mix of drugs your bf wants to avoid? What drugs, please, does he NOT want, and why?

Has you BF had resistance tests and did the doctor say that Sustiva-Truvada is appropriate?

Generic Atripla comes from India.  Is if for sale, in your European country?  What is the price?

Do you have health insurance?  How are you going to pay for the drugs?  Once you start, you shouldn't stop.  Are finances in order to stay on a drug if its not the govenrment health service, the hospital, or the insurance company who is paying?

Outside of India, generic atripla is not exactly "cheap".  Unless the source is official.  In some countries REAL atripla is cheap.  What country are you in?  Some countries have deals with pharma companies for the real drugs, at drastically reduced prices.

The doctor told my bf that he has to go on meds.
Our problem is now that we ve read on the internet many bad things about the meds used for this virus.i know you gonna tell me that not everything that is written on line is true, but i can t help to wonder.what i know is that my bf system is not very good with taking meds generaly speaking.that is why i feel worried.i don t know yet what meds they will sugest in the hospital.tomorrow morning we are going to find out and i am gonna tell you.we heard about atripla and the generic one.and everybody said is better than any other meds.so that is why we said to go for that one.as i said before we are new on this, , world'' and we don t know many things.everything we learn from internet.
Mech...to your questions.Yes we have insurance.i work and my bf has a bussines. No,here in this country they don t have the atripla, but i ve heard they have it in england. You asked what are my questions. The meds. Tomorrow if you can help me,i will find out what the doctors sugest to him and i am gonna write them down here, and maybe you can give me an opinion?
As to the othe question:yes we can afford generic atripla, maybe even atripla.i know is a long way road and that he starts meds can t stop them :(.

Yes write down the names and post them in this thread. There are people who know a lot about all the combinations.

Atripla is not "the best".  There a number of excellent medicines.  It is often a question of which combination finally works the best for an individual person.

Atripla did NOT work well for me I had side effects - you see?! I am on something even newer and no side effects anymore.  It all depends on the person.

Also, the doctor will HAVE to make a recommendation based on resistance tests.  Not everyone can use any medicine. It depends on the person.

Why don't you read some lessons, if you haven't yet.
