Happy Mother's Day to All UK Mums
« on: April 03, 2011, 08:22:54 am »
HAPPY MOTHERING SUNDAY!!!

Today is Mother's Day - officially called Mothering Sunday in the UK. The day is somehow tied to the Easter calendar so it changes from year to year. I can never remember what the tie-in is, but it is what it is.

I know we have several UK mums here, some of them very new mums or mums to be, so please give a shout out to all the UK mums.

I received a very cute and sweet card from my daughter this year. It was blank inside, but the outside reads...

I once asked my mother if I was a gifted child.

She said she certainly wouldn't have paid for me!"

Hehehehe... took me a moment to figure that one out. Senior moment I guess. :D

On the inside she wrote...

To Mother Dearest,

Happy Mother's Day!

Hope you have a lovely day! Wish I was there to wait on you hand and foot (or maybe not!) haha.

I love you lots and lots. Thank you for being you.

She's such a good kid (well, young adult. She'll be 24 next month at the end of the month. I keep forgetting that we're in April already!) I miss her very much - she's currently in Norwich, England, studying for her teaching certificate so she can teach primary school. She just this week got a job at a school in Lowestoft, England, starting next September. She'll probably be home for a month this summer, but after that I guess she's flown the coop.

So here's to all us mums in the UK; the expecting ones, the ones with littlins, and the ones with adult children. We all rock! :)

Thanks Ann, Happy Mothers Day!

I'm so proud of my 15 yo. I'd admired my older son's incense box back in February while visiting. He went online when he was at his dad's, found a shop and bought me one along with a set of sticks..such a surprise, I think he's gonna be a great boyfriend/husband to some lucky person one day!

Happy Mother's day to our Ann and all the other UK moms, and former UK moms like Jan.  Good to hear your daughter is doing well and will at least be near enough to you.  My goodness when we first started up getting to know each other here on this site she was a teenage girl, proof positive how fast time flies.

My goodness when we first started up getting to know each other here on this site she was a teenage girl, proof positive how fast time flies.

That's right, Jody, she was just thirteen when I was diagnosed. I had to tell her within a week or so of finding out because there were so many rumours going around our little town (I was diagnosed as part of a "cluster" of eight people) and I didn't want her to hear it from some kid at school. She's been just incredible in how she handled it all - even giving me my weekly interferon shots when I was too chicken-shit to stick the needle in myself. (I don't know how diabetics do it every day, or people who were on Fuzeon. Just amazing.)

Sometimes I wish there were something like a "Daughter's and Son's Day" to honour the kids who resist the temptation to be tearaways. All we ever hear about are the kids who get into trouble and it's a shame the good ones don't get much - if any - recognition.

I was out shopping with my BGF yesterday and bought my daughter a card - just a little something to remind her how precious she is to me and how proud I am of her.

Thanks Ann, Happy Mothers Day!
