AIDS WORLD DAY
« on: November 12, 2007, 01:47:15 pm »
Rides  from all over the world (New York, San Francisco,L.A,  Irvine, Philadelphia as well as in Mexico, England and Australia, just to name a few) will be cycling 27 miles to represent the 27 years of HIV/AIDS..  Together, let's make the World AIDS Day ride something magical. We request that all cyclists wear RED! Red ribbons will be available at sign in.
Cyclists will gather for a short memorial ceremony where names of loved ones lost to HIV/AIDS will be read.
I will also have flags on my bike with the names of all those I lost to AIDS and if you would like to  have the name of a loved one you lost, just let me know and I will be very honored to make sure their names are included in the memorial and on my bike.

For more info you can send me a note or more info is available on the AIDS/LifeCycle homepages under "Calendar of Events"

The Ride does not END until AIDS does.............

I will be riding beside you in spirit.

I haven't heard of anything like this event anywhere in NZ, I wish I had heard about it before so I could have maybe suggested it to some of the local bike clubs here.

Hugs

Good job riding!  Excellent!!!!

If you wouldn't mind, would your please add Christine's name to your flag?  I know she would be honored!
Her husband would love it as he is an avid bike rider.   I, too, would appreciate it.

Best wishes!  Go speed racer!  Go!

It will be my honor to ride with Christine on Dec 1.
and since you brought this up, I have a special request for Chris....  On the 5th day of the LifeCycle ride we all wear red (the red dress day).... I would be very honored if I had Chris' permission to ride wearing a Minnie Mouse outfit that day ( I know how much Christine liked Disney so I thought I ride in Minnie Mouse gear to honor our beloved Christine)  if you can get in touch with Chris, please ask him about this request.

If you have room, could you add Randy Rapp's name? Even with Jim in my life, even though it's been almost 14 yrs., I still miss him very much. Losing Randy is the worst thing that happened in my life; but has given me the strength to get through many rough times.

Just a follow up on the Saturday ride....

Here in San Francisco we had over 50 riders show up on a very chilly morning.  We took off from Golden Gate park over the GG Bridge into Sausalito and to Mill Valley where we gathered for a break and some of us had breakfast... We all wore something red and we all had the number 27 and the name Caleb on the back of our jackets.  I had at least 3 people ask me what that meant so the ride was definitely a success because we did bring awareness to many people ( we made people remember that it has been 27 years of the AIDS pandemic and we also made them realise that in this day and age people are still prejudice and ignorant about HIV....Caleb is the 2 year old boy who was denied entry to a public pool in Alabama because he is HIV + ).
After we got back to SF, I went to the AIDS Grove where I laid down the names of our loved ones in the circle of friends (it never gets easy, I still cry everytime I go there).
I will post some pics as soon as I download them.

Thanks for the update, Rich. Sounds like you had a good day.

Do you also have an update concerning outing yourself at work last week? I hope it went well for you.

Hi Ann,

Thank you for asking about work....people are acting weird..not all but some, and especially the management team.  It makes some people uncomfortable to know that I am positive, that is all I can say.  Does it bother me? No, I can honestly say I don't care about what people think about me, and in a twisted way I am glad to make those few people uncomfortable.  I am not ashamed anymore, I don't fear anymore and some people would rather me keep it to myself, but oh well...as my dear Queen would say...2 tears in a bucket....!!!

Hey Rich,

Sounds good! And I know exactly what you mean about being glad some have been made uncomfortable. I've felt that way before too. I'm glad that nobody went OTT and freaked out on you. It's never nice to have someone loonying out on you, no matter what the cause.

Hugs,
Ann
