You Better Watch Out...... The Inaugural Is Coming to Town.."

Just a quick note to those living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and thinking of renting their homes or space in their homes for out of town folk coming in for the inaugural (economic times are hard and the potential rent money is very enticing) and the host of activities, please be mindful of the process you go through to rent the space and people (including strangers) you let into your home.

I know we are all caught up in this wonderful event that will take place January 20 when Barack Obama becomes president of the United States. God knows I am! I just want all my pumpkins out there to be safe through what will surely be a fantastic frenzy!

Take care.

Of the two friends I have in the DC area, one is planning on hunkering down and the other will be staying at his farm outside of the city (Bowie, MD, I believe.)  What I've heard, as much as I'd like to be there, I'm not much into that size of crowds.

It does remind me of the pre-event warnings we Atlantans were given before the '96 Olympics... massive gridlock, companies urged to scale back hours, and the like.  When the Games did begin, other than the rail system which was pushed to its limits, it was almost a ghost town.  Except for a single bomb *ahem* it was nowhere the frenzy we believed it would be.  I don't know anyone who actually rented out a room or their place... nothing I would have done.

I am in DC on Capitol Hill and the only fun things I have heard are the bars will be open until 5am (emergency legislation) METRO will be running 8 car trains if they can get enough power into the system to do so and some are saying we will have 4 million visitors. Aside from that things should be business as usual.
