Am I infected
« on: April 07, 2013, 10:25:58 am »
On March 16 I had insertive anal intercourse with a man that after we found out he was poz.

On march 20 he got positive and the bioanalist told me she sent the blood sample to be retested and it was positive. I got negative.

Suddenly on march 21 I started to feel bad had nausea, loss of appetitte  and try to vomit and generally feeling unwell. Sometimes i had like sweat nights but it was 2 or 3 days only. Also i got dry lips, high blood pressure but no fever, rash, fatigue, or swollen lymph nodes. I feel a little dizzy. These symptoms were present the two first weeks. Right now I'm having problems to sleep and feel a little pain after a long breath.

What are the chances due to these symptoms that i am infected?

I got tested on april 1 and elisa was negative.. But 16 days is too early. If i repeat elisa after one month and got negative what is the accuracy of elisa at 4 weeks.

I don't know if its anxious or what could it be?
Cmv, hepatitis?

Thanks already for your comments.

Hi Telcom , You didn't say if you used a condom or not for anal sex in your post and that information could be helpful for us when advising you .

Most people who are infected with HIV will show antibodys within 4 to 6 weeks , its best to test at 6 weeks and then again at 3 months to confirm your test result as conclusive .

Discussing your symptoms is something we don't do here because they are not specific to HIV ... the only way to know if you HIV is to test at the appropriate time .

Remember that other sexually transmitted diseases are much easer to get than HIV so you should be having annual sexual health checkups as well as HIV testing if you are sexually active .

Unfortunatelly it was unprotected  :'(

and also I cummed inside him. Does the fact of cumming affects risk for top guy?

It was just one exposure.....  :'(

It doesn't matter if you cum or not it only matters that you had unprotected anal sex .

The thing to do now is to test at 6 weeks post exposure and again at 3 months for a conclusive result .

Telcom,

I removed the post and thread you wrote in the Spanish Living With forum.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote
With the exception of the “Am I Infected?” and “Off Topic” Forums, the AIDSmeds.com Forums are intended for people who have been diagnosed with HIV (or their loved ones/caregivers).  If you are questioning or unaware of your HIV status, please refrain from posting messages or questions in the Forums intended for HIV-positive people.

Also, you will not be permitted to start posting in the Estoy infectado? forum as a way to get around having to take out a subscription. You started in the English forum and that is where you need to stay.

Please consider yourself warned!

You have had a risk and you do need to test. While I would not expect you to test positive following this one-time, brief insertive incident, the ONLY way to know for sure is to test at the appropriate time.

The earliest you should test again is at six weeks. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days.

A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

You need to wise up and stop having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks Ann,

I got negative at 24 Days of exposure. You said that the average is 22 Days, so does it reduce the chances of getting infected?

50 % Maybe?

I'm too scared. I swear for good that i will use condoms. I have been using condoms. It was just one exposure :(................

Is there any accuracy? For example 50 % accracy?

Thanks Ann

We don't deal in numbers and percentages and guessing here. If you test negative at 6 weeks then the likelihood is that you will test negative at 3 months and that will be a conclusive result.

Meantime while waiting to test you need to make a real effort to focus on other matters in your life. Doing that will make the waiting time pass more easily than you likely imagine is possible.

Hi Telcom , I moved your post back into your thread in Am I infected where it belongs .

Congratulations on testing negative for HIV , it really doesn't come as a surprise to us that do these assessments , I fully expected your WB to come back negative .

You can put this behind you now but if you still cant except the results you can take the oraquick test at the 3 month mark but its not going to change .
