Prevista/Norvir/Truvada with alcohol
« on: April 11, 2012, 09:43:39 am »
Hey everyone,

Just wondering what the combo of Prevista/Norvir/Truvada are like when consuming alcohol.  Are there any dangerous effects?

Thanks - I just wanted to know if I have to avoid alcohol if I'm on these meds.

Thanks so much.

Just play it by ear -- you know, big difference between getting smashed as opposed to a couple glasses of wine at dinner.

Though certainly I've gotten drunk on HIV meds :) I just don't do it very often.

I'm on the same medications, and haven't had any issues with it in terms of alcohol consumption.

I drink like a fish, and I am on Prezista, Isentress, Norvir and Truvada.

My liver enzymes and kidney function are normal.

Your mileage may vary.

I was drinking as usual, wine with dinner, etc. and had a very bad reaction after being on that combination. After 45 days of being on the regimen, my t cell count shot up and my viral load dropped sharply, but my liver enymes were off the charts. More than 5X normal range, which is dangerous. My doctor said that it was unusual to see an adverse reaction to the drug combination because it's generally well-tolerated.  I suggest getting a blood test in 45 days.
