Final Post on Jim
« on: November 27, 2006, 08:08:22 am »
Our friend who had PML died yesterday afternoon. His Mom had come in from Tucson and we met her at the nursing home.  Jim was having great trouble breathing and fortunately the hospice nurse showed up soon after we arrived.  With her help, JIm began to breath easier but it was clear that he was near death. His temperature was 106.2 and the fluid in his lungs had increased. His eyes were fixed and he was semi comatose. We stroked him and used cool compresses on his face and neck.  The hospice nurse told us that he was holding on but that if we gave him permission to go he would.  So through our tears we all told him it was time for him to let go and he did.

Dear Bear,
Losing someone is never easy, even when you know what is coming.

Jim is out of pain now. Having been in the same situation, I know this is little solace, but please know my thoughts and heart are with you.

My condolences to you, Bear. You were a good friend to him until the end. What a loving service to do for a friend, to make the letting go as good as possible.

May you be comforted now.

Hello Bear,

My deepest condolences go out to you And Jim's Family. I know how difficult this is.

Gone from My Site

By Henry Van Dyke (1852-1933)

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and the sky come to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says "there, she is gone !"

"Gone where?"

Gone from my site. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says" There she is gone!" There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout : "Here she comes!

And that is dying...

My thoughts go out to you----------Ray

Joel, you and your partner did a wonderful and beautiful thing.  Jim was with friends and family right up to the very ending/beginning.    I know he knew you were by his side as he "moved on"....  That comfort for Jim will never be forgotten neither by Jim or his family.  May we all be so blessed when that time comes to be amoungst loving family and dear friends such as you...

Farewell for now Jim, and God Bless.... Your Spirit Soars...

Love

Dear Bear,

My condolences to you and Jim's family at his passing. Giving someone permission to let go is one of the hardest experiences we can go through and yet it can also be seen as the greatest gift you can ever give to someone that you have loved and cared for.

I hope that you will gain comfort and strength from somewhere to guide you through this difficult time.

In love and light for Jim's spirit.

It is never easy to say good-bye, but then you should considered given a precious gift to be there at that moment, telling him :

it pains me so, but i can't be selfish , but to let you go first !! so you shall suffer no more.

i did that to my late BF, and he went. guess, the pain would be more unbearable not being there. i have no words to share , just like to reach out my hand and touch you as a gesture to say i understand your loss.

Dear Bear,

when my best friend was dying, I told him it was allright to go. I know how hard it is to say that to someone you really love. It is powerful that you managed to do so. That is real love and friendship.

I wish you strength for the time coming.

Joel,

I only admire your trueness to Jim and you and Kurt have shown what the true meaning of friendship is. You guys are like Angels. My heart and prayers are with you two and his family

Living amongst angels

It is music to my ears
When heard of good deeds
So many things happen in our lives
Even if it feels as if a part
Of your life has been torn away
But considering the events that surrounds us
We always have good people around us
That we are blessed with
In actual fact we are living
Amongst angels
We are surrounded by them and
Our lives and being
Are blessed by those who care
We should reach out to those who showed
Us love and in return reach out
To those in need of love
We could all be angels
We should show more care and compassion
To others even our love
We all are living amongst angels
Look deep within ourselves to find
The good that God intended for us all
When you have found your purpose
You will feel the presence amongst the angels

I'm truly sorry to hear about Jim. I've read this thread several times and have started to reply over and over again but I can't seem to make any sense of my words. I can't compare PML to any other OI but I know how awful and scary PML can be. Jim is free of pain now and I guarantee to you that your friendship and  support helped him through it all.

Take care
