Am I getting correct treatment

Dear Members,

I am tested positive in middle of 2009, In December 2010 my CD4 count was 254, my doctor initiated the ART before three months back. I am now taking daily two pills of combo ( Lamivudine, Nevirapine, Stavudine ) with minor side effects like Peripheral neuropathy.

Please suggest me Am I on right medicines?

Yes, but if you can get off the stavudine and onto something else this is a very good idea. It is the stavudine casuing your neuropathy.

Stavudine is also quite likely to cause body shape changes/lipoatrophy. If you live somewhere with more restricted access to HIV medication I would actually take AZT/zidovudine before I would take stavudine. And if you have access to tenofovir I would take that before either of those.

I will ask for AZT to my doctor, I forget to say I am from India.
I don't know AZT / tenofovir is available or not in my country

Both are available, including generic versions, and the other drug that may help, abacavir (need to check if you are allergic or not before using this).
