Hi, im a mother of 2 worried sick. So here's my situation, our apartment is under construction workers come in go. One day a worker cut his finger and bleeding a lot. Found bloodshed on the door knob of the entrance door, on the floor and on the wall. So i asked him to wipe it off. Then hurriedly went back to his work. I noticed blood stain on the wall seconds after that and sprayed some water and alcohol. I gelt splashes on my face tiny droplets on my eyes and lips. Not sure if its blood or water or just a splash back. Minutes after that saw my 11month old baby with a toy on his mouth dnt know where it came from and i came to thinking it came from the floor where the worker pass through. I didnt notice blood( not sure if there's blood on it) thinking there's blood on the toy is she on a risk contracting hiv? If the guy is hiv positive? Am i at risk too? Should we get tested? Im really worried for my baby. Im panicking and cant stop myself googling about it. Oh btw, 2days after the incident i had a sore throat that lasted for a week. Had antiobics for a week. No fever. Should i consider that a symptom? Pls help me cant focus on my work on my kids and to my husband. Im getting paranoid :( Thanks!

No need to worry as HIV becomes non-infectious once it hits oxygen. HIV cannot live outside of the body and there was no risk to your child, or yourself and hence no need for any testing. The risks of HIV are well known and it does not survive on any environmental surface, so all is good.

Thank you Joe! I felt relief on your reply. If i may ask one more question, about my child, i didnt notice blood on the toy, what if there was fresh blood and put it in her mouth? Still no risk? Sorry to bother you Joe. I hope you'll understand. :)

There is no risk when blood is exposed to oxygen, so even if there is blood on a surface, like a toy, it is not able to infect anyone. I understand your concern, however, HIV cannot infect, once outside of the body and that includes any surface it may come in contact with, so you can put your mind at ease.
