How impressive.  Consider that it's only been 12 years since the appearance of a gay porn magazine in the country and 11 years since the first gay pride parade.

The Brazilian Federal government released yesterday in Brasília the Plano Nacional de Promoção da Cidadania e Direitos Humanos de LGBT, a groundbreaking national plan to promote rights of gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transsexuals. The plan is composed of 51 key policies developed in June of 2008 at the National LGBT Conference. It includes:

1) the legalization of adoption rights by homosexual couples, and the equality of civil rights of homosexual couples.

2) the development of a sexual diversity educational program in the curriculum of military and police officers.

3) the revision of the current restriction for homosexuals to donate blood.

4) the right to automatically change name and sex without having to file a lawsuit in the case of transsexuals.

5) rating television programming which contains homophobic content as inappropriate for children and adolescents.

6) adding homosexual families as a theme to educational books.

The plan may also play an important role in the legalization of gay civil unions on a federal level, and in the approval of the law which criminalizes homophobic acts.

Just further proof that although the US is a "first-world" country, it is soooo backward in many ways. Even Spain has same-sex marriage, and that's another heavily Catholic country. I'm wanting to leave this country more and more every day.

Huh.

Everyone who knows anything knows it's not the Catholics you want to be worried about. Catholics do what they want and go to confession once a week. Fundamental Protestant Christians, on the other hand, also do what they want, but they never admit it and do their damndest to make sure others don't enjoy the same freedoms.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Ah, but in my town, it is mostly the Catholics to be worried about right now.  They're the ones protesting Obama giving the commencement speech at Notre Dame, wheeling around carriages with dolls covered in fake blood, flying planes around with pictures of aborted fetuses, and driving trucks around with the same pictures on them.  Sunday, which is when the graduation is, should be interesting.

Belgium is also catholic but gay marriage is legal.
Here is Cr.oatia (.hr), catholic church is homophobic, intolerant just like in Italy,Poland and Ireland so
no gay rights at all, the idea of gay marriage is far fetched, unfortunately :(

It has nothing to do with religion, in Spain and Belgium the state is independent from church, in
Italy, Poland, Ireland and here in .hr, catholic church has huge influence on state politics, so state is not independent from religion...Here, sexual education is in the domain of Catholic church because of the agreement with Vatican, so in a way, I live in a colony of Vatican, and the life can be hell here... :'(

It's totally insane. Quite a few people were arrested yesterday (for trespassing), including that Randall Terry (again).  And they'll be sitting in jail all weekend.  However, in a good note, the senior class decided to give Father Jenkins, the university president (who has caught so much hell about inviting Obama), the award of Senior Class Fellow, an award given to someone who has made a significant impact on the senior class.

Spain approved the gay marriage like 4 years ago and it is also a very Catholic country with only 30 year history of democracy.
The only member in these forums approved by WINBA: World International Nail and Beauty Association.
