Need some courage and advice
« on: May 12, 2014, 06:13:28 am »
Hi everyone.

When i first found this posting site i was so happy that i might get an answer to my big concern but after reading some of posting,

I am asking to give some courage and advice since symptom doesn't mean any thing.
But either ways i think this place is a great place and very helpful.

Anyways let me tell my story a little bit.

I am 26 years old girl. Had so far 4 partners. Had unprotected sex with all those four. Never checked for hiv or others SDTs. One of them is my current Partner. We been together for 11 mon now.
I love him but i hav bad drinking habit. This happened two weeks ago, on my friend bday, i had enough drinks and my boyfriend was not with me. I slept over my friends house and had unprotected vaginal sex. This is actually second time it happened. First time my bf find out but he forgive me. This time i hided it. And it is been two weeks. I got really sick. High fever over 102f, rash all over the body(non palpable red, not so much itching), headache, swollen lymph node ( painful when touching), tired, loss appetite. I hav searched web like crazy and found out some of my symptoms Are like early hiv symptoms. And after i found out that i can not sleep or think correctly. Fever is gone after three days but swollen lymph node and rash is still present now 4th days.

I study nursing so i know how stupid my action was. And very wrong to my partner. And now i am regretting and so scared to get tested.  I went to see doctor but he only prescribed antibiotic and did cbc bloodtest. Asked me to come back on mon.

How can i tell my partner about it? We dont use protection and we already had unprotected sex in two weeks. Am i thinking too much or too fast before getting test or i should let him know what might hav been going on?

What should i do for rest of 11 weeks till i get real confirmation?
I am so worried about my partner.

Sorry my posting might sound not connected.

The only thing you can do at this point is to test at 6 weeks past any possible exposure and confirm it at 3 months . The problem is that sleeping with your partner is a risk for HIV for the both of you . You have not been in a monogamous relationship with your partner where you both have been exclusive and tested in the 3 month window period together .

The best advice I can give is to do the responsible thing and let him know you had a risk and that you both need to test at the appropriate time . I'm not judging you but you must address the drinking problem that leads you to make bad decisions like having unprotected sex or this situation may repeat itself and you could end up with HIV and single again .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
