Am I ok?
« on: November 23, 2008, 09:28:44 am »
Hello

I am new here and I have a couple of quick questions in hopes that someone can give me som advice.

About 3 months ago I was involved in an act of Insertive anal intercourse (protected) until the condom broke within the last few minutes. And also unprotected insertive oral obviously at the same time with the same guy. I have been an emotional wreck since the ordeal to say the least.

He says that he is HIV negative but I have reason to believe otherwise. However, I have tested Negative at 84 days 12 weeks post the encounter with the Oraquick Advanced HIV rapid test. The counselor said that this was sufficient enough time and that my test is considered conclusive.

Within a couple of days from the test I participated in Mutual Masturbation with a guy that I have known off and on for a few years now. During the act we had VERY limited contact. He touched my penis and testicles with the hand that he was using to stimulate himself as I did the same.

I dont recall seeing any blood or pre ejaculate. But I am not 100% sure. My concern is that I had shved the morning of and I had a very SMALL nick at the base of my penis. What would be the likliehood of HIV transmission should there have been any pre ejaculate on his hand?

The whole reason I participated in the mutual masturbation session is because I am EXTREMELY scared to do anything else now that I had that scare three months ago. But I feel like I might have done something just as dangerous (with my nick from shaving) and I dont know if I can endure another 3 months of waiting.

Was my 84 days Oraquick winow long enough and considered conclusive?

Do I have to wait another 3 months because of this masturbation incident a few days ago?

Please help.

Your counselor was giving you the right stuff. You are HIV negative. Period. End of story. Make sure you are using fresh latex condoms which fit you properly to avoid breakage again.

No matter what spin details you put on the masturbatory experience, there is no risk for transmission. It's one of the most common of sexual acts and we would have known long before today if there was any risk. So you can relax about that one.

Cheers.

Hello and Thank you for the informative words....

I have one more question. As I was going thru the information on the website I noticed that it says no test is conclusive until 13 weeks post encounter.

I had tested negative at 12 weeks (84) days post encounter. Now I am confused again. I know that in the UK it is 12 weeks so I guess 84 days and in the US (which is where I live ) I hear it is 13 weeks or (90) days. Does this really matter?

I had talked to someone here in the states who is another HIV counselor and he said absolutely nothing is conclusive until 6 months. Is he behind the times?

I am so worried now.

Sorry for the hastle. Please advise

No, the one week difference between 12 and 13 weeks does not matter in getting a reliable test result. Many countries use 12 weeks as the benchmark for testing.

And yes, that other source that said 6 months testing is required is totally behind the times. The only circumstances in which it is necessary to test to 6 months is very serious IV drug use is involved or a severely depressed immune system due to cancer treatment or an organ transplant. None of which I expect apply to you.

You're HIV negative. Period. End of story. Go eat your turkey.

Thank you Sir....

Just wanted to let you know that your insight has been very helpful. Ecspecially for the ones out here who feel as if there lifes have taken a serious turn south. Not understanding and extreme fear can take a serious toll on ones body.

You should know that your work does not go unmentioned.

-And to let you know I went and got tested before I got your reply this morning. Of course as you said it all came back negative.

Good luck and God Bless,

M
