Holy Mother of God.....how times change.  I used to know someone who could say he did that many in a week.  He would have several booked over his lunch hour.
Modified to add: Pleading the 5th here too Rod.  One too many just about says it all.

How many stars are in the sky?
How many grains of sand are on a beach?

Okay, maybe not that many... but I loved them all (if only for the moment). ;)

This reminds me of years ago when I was in a clinical trial. The doctor running the trial asked me how many sexual partners I'd had. I told him I wasn't sure. He said more than 5? Yes. More than 12? Yes. More than 20? Oh yes. Then he just looked at me with disgust. I said "You do realize you're working with gay men, right?" He just went to the next question.

Javico darling....Training? At this point in time I would go for quality rather than quantity. Just a suggestion.  If you equate quantity with learning, I think thats a mistake.  Finding a really good teacher is a good idea.  And, if you dont mind me asking...what kind of training do you need/want?

You can go out and buy all the Disco Mix CD's you want.

They are countable?  Rememberable even?  I used to keep a log of sexual encounters in my 20's - I began to shock even myself.  Gave that up.  To echo GSO it is probably somewhere between the number of stars in the sky and the number of grains of sand on the beach at Fire Island.

Echoing Ernie: I used to keep a count in my 20s but gave up when I turned 30.

But I'll pretend to be brave and hazard a very very rough guess: between 500 and 600? In my own defence I will say this is over a period of 15 years.  ::)

Edited to add: and one girl.

Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

I don't think I can count high enough to even begin to tell!

I do know that I've been with only one woman (my ex-wife).  Until about 7 years ago, I could remember all the guys' names and a brief description.  Now, I just try and keep track of how many for a given week (if out of town having fun) or month.  I do know that the number increased tremendously after my husband and I became a couple (increased for both of us).  At the risk of sounding slutty or ho-ish, I hope the number continues to rise!   ;)

God, I was 20 in January, 1976.   Between then and 2001 and my present celibate state I'd guess about 20 - 100 guys a year depending on the year.  Defining myself by engaging in sex was what it was all about back then.  I had to be unfettered by society's ridiculous mores and declare myself a free gay man.  At the beginning of the AIDS epidemic there was a lot of talk about scare tactics being used to inhibit our sexuality.  Then the shit really hit the fan.

30 years later I realize that, as someone else stated earlier, quantity has nothing to do with quality or enjoyment.  I've noted elsewhere I'm big on kissing/cuddling/intimacy even more than a sex act so many of the guys I had sex with failed to inspire me.   We might as well have been masturbating.  Mechanized sex has never turned me on... well, it aroused me enough to join in (that's really easy to do...) but left a blank feeling afterwards.

If that sounds bitter it's not, for true.  I'm just speaking my mind, or what now passes for one.

From Edmund White's The Farewell Symphony:

"If I had sex, say, with an average of three different partners a week from 1962 to 1982 in New York, then that means I fooled around with 3,210 men during my twenty years there. The funny thing is that I always felt deprived, as though all the other fellows must be getting laid more often. A gay shrink once told me that that was the single most common complaint he heard from his patients, even from the real satyrs: they weren't getting enough tail as the next guy...

"Nor did all this sex preclude intimacy. For those who never lived through that period (and most of those who did are dead), the phrase 'anonymous sex' might suggest unfeling sex, devoid of emotion. And yet, as I can attest, to hole up in a room at the baths with a body after having opened it up and wrung it dry, to lie, head propped on the guy's stomach just where the tan line bisects it, smoke a cigarette and talk to him late into the night and early into the morning about your childhood, his unhappiness in love, your money worries, his plans for the future -- well, nothing is more personal, more emotional. The best thing of all were the random, floating thoughts we shared..."

Sonja: Oh, Boris, I'm so unhappy.
Boris: Ohh, I wish you weren't.
Sonja: Voskovec and I quarrel frequently. I've become a scandal.
Boris: Poor Sonja.
Sonja: For the past weeks, I've visited Seretski in his room
Boris: Why? What's in his room? Oh...
Sonja: And before Seretski, Aleksei, and before Aleksei, Alegorian, and before Alegorian, Asimov, and...
Boris: Okay!
Sonja: Wait, I'm still on the A:s.
Boris: How many lovers do you have?
Sonja: In the mid-town area?

-Love and Death

These are ballpark figures, mind you.  I haven't done an accurate count since 2002.

Guys: Probably around 80 or 90.
Girls: 5 to 7 (the last two are dependant on whether or not anything happened... I don't know and neither do they.  Thank you, Stoli and cocaine.)

How 'man'y? ??? mmmmmmmmm I'd have to agree with Javichos count except for the girl count. I was only once with a hot "lesbian" who seduced me into sex and it WAS great!  When I wasn't "taken" during my college years, I guess my rump had a sign on it saying "Free available tight space. If you qualify. I'll try.."!

OH MY GOD.... actual numbers.  They may be around my CD4 count.  If you can find that, you are close to my number.

If my cd4 count equalled the number of sexual partners I would be the envy of all.  Including JO it is closer to my VL at time of diagnosis.

Excuse me but the  stroll down memory lane has brought something up that needs attention.  Add another 1.

I'm starting to feel in good company with my numbers.

But lots of you being coy with the actual digits. I'll try the research angle again: I'm trying to write about modern-day promiscuity and need facts and figures. (That sentence is a big fat lie.)
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. I can scarcely believe I'm going to admit this in public, as I suspect many
will be disappointed by my answer, and I'm likely to have my gay card
revoked:  I've had sex with 9 men (no women).

Henry
