I've got a HUGE ONE
« on: July 24, 2008, 07:15:39 pm »
Literally!

Enormous!

O.K. some of you need to get your friggin minds out of the gutter.  Obviously I'm talking about tomatoes!   ::)

I've only had mediocre success in previous years, but for some reason this year I seem to have hit the jackpot.

This guy is the biggest.  Bigger than a softball.  He's got 28 (at last count) cousins.  But they are much littler and not nearly as beefy as he is.

I'm anticipating a luscious beef steak (sp?) tomato on my dinner plate any day now.  YUM!

BTW, my green beans, cukes, and peppers also seem to be on steroids!  Seriously!

Don't you just LOVE summer vegetables?  Here's a real 'southern' thing for you to do:   make a "kitchen sink tomato sandwich".

You get some white bread (we call if "loaf-a-bread"), slather it with mayonnaise, put some thick tomato slices on it, salt and pepper, and enjoy!

You stand over the kitchen sink to eat it, because it is so drippy!

hugs,

Alan

Harrumph!   >:(

Hardly any oohs or aahs!

Lots of eye rolling and dismissive comments (save for Alan and Den)!

I know what's going on here.  Most of you are envious of my "big one".  Well tough!  I'm keeping this guy for myself, you can't have it!

He's goona sit here for a couple of days and ripen some more then I'm eating him.  (Not as a sandwich though, just sliced and sprinkled with a wee bit of sugar!)

That'll teach you!  :P

RAB,

Well, we have discussed your big red one, but now about those cukes.  Remember that they are to be eaten, not . . .

I found the other day at the supermarket a tomatoe the size of a big grapefruit. I was shocked so I bought it because it was perfect in every way. It was pretty expensive for just one tomatoe but I didn't complain. I didn't slice it until I had shown almost all my neighbors. Those tomatoe slices went down with vinager or balsamic dressing and it lasted for 5 days! What a joy! I regret not taking a picture of that big 'ol fat red thing in my hands!  ;D

PS:  OMG!  I made my first ever fried green tomatoes this past Saturday!  (I am currently stocked to the hilt with fresh garden veggies.  No, I didn't grow them...but yes, I picked them.  Blueberries, tomatoes, okra, corn that is to die for!)  Oh...and homemade canned pickles.

Michael... "pink cush buds" enhance the flavor of tomatoes...  :)

We were just talking about the enhanced flavor of foods through the use of herbals the other day.

If I was sitting in a lovely sidewalk cafe in San Francisco and lit up a marijuana cigarette, nothing would happen.

If I were sitting in the same cafe in San Francisco and lit up a Marlboro cigarette, the police would arrive.  The chances of me finishing my Tomato Sandwich in the sidewalk cafe in San Francisco would be much greater if I smoked the marijuana  ;D  Have the best day
