Chances of catching hiv through this?

So i was playing basketball, and i drank from this random guy's water bottle( cold water). What are the chances of catching any sort of HIV?

You have NOT had a risk for hiv infection. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is primarily transmitted INSIDE the body during unprotected intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies.

Once outside the body, small changes in temperature, and pH and moisture levels all quickly damage the virus and render it unable to infect. For this reason, hiv CANNOT be transmitted through sharing drinking vessels or eating utensils. It is NOT spread through ANY objects in the environment and it is NOT spread through any sort of casual contact.

Where adults are concerned, hiv is transmitted through:

Unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse.

Sharing drug injecting equipment.

And that's IT.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER SHARING A WATER BOTTLE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I was playing basketball in a park, and i ran into this guy(Asian male). My mouth kind of touched his skin and tasted his sweat. Its nasty, i know. LOL My question is if he has some kind of cut or blood on his skin and i tasted, would there be any chance of transmission? I dont have any cuts in my mouth but like the gum under tooth hurts at that time. I don't think there was any blood, if there was blood others wouldve noticed right? but im really sure. Thank you.

That is immaterial. Our rules are firm. ONE thread per person.

Imagine if you had thirteen different no-risk events, and decided to start a new thread each time? And each time, we patiently explained HOW you get HIV. Without seeing your posting history, we would be wasting valuable time by telling you the same things over and over again.

Like these similar instances, for example, which illustrate that you haven't taken a single second to learn about HIV transmission, and obviously do not intend to read our replies. Oh, we will still reply - for others who read these threads. Don't get me wrong.

But if you don't know that this was a NO RISK incident, then you either have not read our LESSONS on transmission, or you cannot comprehend the information.

There has never, ever been a case of hiv transmission occurring during any sort of sporting activity. NEVER. People playing contact sports crash into each other all the time and yet nobody's ever been infected this way. You're not going to be the first.

You would only need to test if it is part of a regular, routine sexual health check up. You only need to do this if you are sexually active.

If your hiv paranoia is starting to rule your life, it's time you sought out a therapist so you can get to the bottom of your irrational fears. Ask your doctor for a referral.

I explained to you last week how hiv is transmitted and how to protect yourself. Please re-read your entire thread.
