looking for some advice!!
« on: September 09, 2011, 05:38:02 am »
Hi all I need your advice in 2 incidents that happened to me, 1st I accidental scratched my hand on a metal button it bleed a bit like few tears and after few seconds I had a handshake with someone that is eating his nails (and not only, meaning he eats the skin around his nails don't know how to describe it better) to the point he bleeds some times, my question: by any chance I got infected if one of his bleeding wounds touched my scratched hand? Remember sometimes he is bleeding  and my 2ND incident I was at the beach and a friend game me a piece of paper in which he had put something I didn't had a pocket so I put it in my swimsuit my fear is that I was shaved earlier down and I had some cuts and also the guy that gave me the paper eats his nails to the bleeding point also, if some of his blood reached my cuts am I in danger?? Or because the paper belongs to the environment any HIV would lose its viability when coming in touch with environment? Sorry if my questions sound silly to you. I am just worried and I needed to know if there was any risk and if I need to test over these 2 incidents regardless my annual checking. Looking forward for your answers.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

You never had an exposure.

Not from handshaking. You don't need to test.

I am happy to hear my only worries was that cause of my scratch and the fact the guy was eating his neils to bleeding point i felt that something was wrong, nice to hear there wasn't an actual danger!

HIV is a fragile virus. It is not passed through handshakes, kissing, environmental surfaces such as doorknobs, food, utensil, tools or clothing.

The only confirmed sexual transmissions of HIV are through unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. As long as you always use condoms for those activities you will be well protected.

You are worrying needlessly and there is no need for testing nor for further concern about this incident.

No risk, no risk, no risk, no risk.

You have no cause for concern in terms of HIV science.

Get on with your life and stop this unnecessary worrying. Really.

I certainly hope you find a professional to talk to about these concerns. It is simply unhealthy to live one's life in fear of handshakes and paper cuts.

For men, HIV is transmitted by unprotected anal and vaginal sex and immediately sharing IV drug needles.

You only get HIV from unprotected anal or vaginal sex, or sharing drug injecting needles.

I doubt we will answer each and every scratch/environmental/casual contact question that occurs to you.
