Main Things To Do / Not Do - Just starting Triple HAART
« on: July 10, 2012, 01:25:11 pm »
With the following HAART regime - Abacavir 600mg, Lamivudine 300mg and Lopinavir+Ritonavir.

Apart from ensuring to take the meds as directed, what are the main things that SHOULD and SHOULDNT be done?

Any general pieces of advice?

Many thanks

Hello, welcome

Do the normal healthy things and don't do the others, same as for HIV negative folk.

Doing the healthy things may be modestly more important for people with HIV since HIV and meds slightly increases the risk of heath disease, kidney disease and related conditions.

If your CD4 count is under 200 be careful of getting bugs from food and the like.

And don't put up with minor side effects. Sit on people until they are sorted.

That's about it.

Hi,

I like taking my medications with food. I am on Epzicom ( Abacavir/lamivudine). And Viramune. I think my gut handles these meds better with something in the gut. But, you can take Epzicom without food. I make sure to drink enough water.

Your doctor should have already looked into any other medications ( if any) that you may be on, to make there are not drug interactions.

I've never been on Lopinavir+Ritonavir, so I am not certain if there may be food restrictions, with these.

And I never had the shits with Abacavir/lamivudine. although, I can get a liitle gassy at times.   :P
