Why levitra not covered
« on: May 13, 2007, 02:43:57 pm »
ok couple of things:

first how do you find an administrator to change your display name? they seem to be the only ones who can yet i cant find a link or email contact for anyone?

second, i am on truvada, reyetaz, and norvir. good combo? anything better? simpler?

now the real question- i have adap but also private prescription insurance. my doc gave me a script for 20mg levitra. DENIED by adap as medically contraindicated. checked on here supposedly norvir boost the levels of levitra. ok fine but 1 why did my doc give me the script for that amt anyway and 2 get this my private plan will fill it with no problems. of course that does mean a $25 co-pay.
Check me out in Poz magazine page 42, June 2010 :)

can't speak for why your doctor prescribed them as he did.  yes, they are contraindicated.  you need to possibly split the pills and take a reduced dosage.  perhaps that was your doc's way of giving you twice as many pills under one scrip.  check with your doc (and even the "Drugs" section here) for more info on interactions.

have to say my first impulse is to say "take the $25 copay and go".  fat chance my doctor would write out a scrip for me to get cialis, levitra or viagra anyway.

and i can't say that i entirely blame him for that.  look...i understand that erectile dysfunction is a real concern, but i also understand that ADAP dollars are tight.  i personally think all that cash should go toward antiretrovirals and scrips to offset the life and health threatening side effects of said ARV's.  i may catch guff for saying so, but that's how i feel.  again, i am not dismissing ED as a problem.  i'm just saying that as long as there are folks here in the U.S. on waiting lists for HAART, i will forego boner pills.

I don't recall ADAP in NY state ever covering something like Levitra.  Unless they've radically changed their formulary since 2004 when I was covered there I'd think that's more the likely reason.

i can't imagine them paying for something like that.  seriously...there are just too many people in need of care- real care.  and by that i mean ARV's and meds for heart, liver, kidney and diabetes needs and the like.  ED meds are something that i would only consider "perfect world" treatments.  i'm sorry, but we need to focus on keeping people alive and healthy before worrying about making sure that people can get it up.

that just doesn't sit well with me at all.

I'm really sure it's not covered.  Though I dare say when I lived there it was probably one of the few things that were NOT covered.  I don't recall every having a problem getting anything even ancillary to HIV covered, and never ever anything purely HIV related.  Here in PA it's a bit more restricted.  I actually have to cough up cash for my sedatives!

Oh child... ADAP in NY state was fierce.  One time they didn't even blink at a bottle of 200 1mg klonopins.

O RLY

Actually most of mine are covered by Medicare, but ADAP doesn't pick up the co-pay and uncovered portions as with all my other meds.  I think I'm only paying about 30% of the actual cost, plus it's the generic version anyway.

Still, NY's ADAP rocks.

YA  RLY

And I bet ADAP doesn't rock  like my alternate sources do.

We'll leave it at that for now.
