I have mixed feelings about TO DO lists. Sometimes a list is helpful, sometimes it's fun to run one through the shredder

I dont tend to do lists because I just do one thing after the other and what I forget is because it's less important, I guess.

All the time,  whenever Im getting ready for a trip, or even planning a big meal ..  'The Devil is in The Details'  as they say...     I also tend to make lists of chores and errands since the act of writing them down makes them 'Real'..  like : Make dental Apointment, Get New Contacts, Change Oil, start seedlings for spring garen, Find whatever died in the Garage and smells like bad Fart, Get wiper washer fluid for the car, etc..

and ofcourse I NEVER go to the store without a list,

As I am having more and more "senior moments"  :'( I am making more and more lists it seems - usually just when I do something out of the routine like a trip etc.

I also use the calendar in my computer to keep track of appointments.  And I have a big paper sign I leave out to remind me what day to go get my weekly labs done.

My big problem is forgetting the stuff I want to put on the damn list!

Oh and Lwood thanks for reminding me that I also have something that croaked in my garage this summer and could never find the sucker...the odor has finally gotten better so I don't have to hold my breath when I run to the car.
And I wished for guidance, and I wished for peace

How about adding one that says

"You make the list, take it with you, and then forget to get/do what was on the list while it is in your hand but remember it as soon as you walk in the door at home"

Guess I'm starting to lose it even more because that happens all the time! LOL

Hell yes. I have lists of my lists.

Between the brain farts and the senior moments I'd be lost without my lists.

I tend to put off shopping (food, incidentals, whatever) until absolutely necessary. So on that day I'll make a list if there are more than 3 stores involved. If not, I'll end up somewhere off the trail and forget about a store or two.  If there's a specific project, I'll make a Home Depot list.  Other than that, nope.

Absolutely Alex !! I think it goes back to when I was in a supervisory position, and just carried on into my everyday life. I always make lists, of things to do, things that I need to do. It's too easy to forget  at times !! Need that reminder! :P

Yes. I use lists and have done so for years. I don't remember the book, or philosophy (I'll Google it later), but there's a whole notion behind the magic of writing. That the likelihood (in fact, some would argue certainty) that an item will be addressed, action completed, etc. is enhanced/ensured by writing.

NB. Any advice about HIV is given in addition to your own medical advice and not intended to replace it. You should never make clinical decisions based on what anyone says on the internet but rather check with your ID doctor first. Discussions from the internet are just that - Discussions. They may give you food for thought, but they should not direct you to do anything but fuel discussion.

I write a "to do" list sometimes when there is nothing "to do", however I do what is on the "to do" list without having "to do" the actual list, which makes throwing a bunch of "to do" lists away something to do... what was I going to do?

I seem to be the only one who called a "to do" list a joke.

I'm really talking about how useless a To Do list is for someone like me... I know they work great for some people... but I'm incredibly disorginazed and usually end up doing I happen to remember to do that day.

I made a To Do list once for stuff I wanted to do by a certain date... and I ended up not doing any of it just to piss off that smarmy little list.  ;)

I think we're all missing out on a huge area of discussion here.

Namely, does anyone have a "Who To Do" list?  ;)

Because I have one.  It's a very long list... checked it twice for Christmas, too!   :D

Supporting You

Hey Alex...

The way I interpet this as you do have a reason for posting this topic, is that it is for us to take the time out of our lives and review what is in front of us. By doing so, this will enable us to continue to move forward in our lives. It is called organizing your life. What WE do today dictates what WE will be doing tomorrow and in the future.

Sex, is just a part of it. There is MORE to this picture in this life.

Take care of YOU!

So Alex...
What are some of your suggestions on making an effective TO DO list?

Well most of the time I don't write one but I guess I would say

1. Listen to your inner voice.
1a. List the important stuff first on the list even if you dread it and especially if procrastination's been a factor

2. Try to "group" stuff together by nature

3. Think about yourself out in the streets doing the stuff on the list and "group" again for the sake of geography and saving time (in other words, further grouping using your "groups" from step 2)

and finally

4. Don't beat yourself up if everything on the list is not done in one day. In fact, look at what you did get done and crossed out and feel good about it. should i type good in all caps? LOL!!!!!!!!!!  :D
