LIFE magazine had an interesting article on their website...I remember the ad, but very little about the controversy surrounding it..but then again, I was living in Germany at that time..

Those pics are so sad, but important to see.  Its hard to think what these folks were thinking at the time.  I can't imagine going to a doctor and them telling you that you only have so many months/years to live.  No treatment to be had really.
