I'm a wreck

Hi forum - thank you for all that you do.

I'm scared, frustrated, angry, and feeling paralyzed.

the weekend before last, in a drunken haze, I hooked up with I guy I didn't know. we had unprotected and unlubricated (with spit...ouch) anal sex where I was the top. It lasted MAYBE 1-2 minutes at most (maybe less?) before I pulled out, came to my senses about what was happening, and left the scene of the crime. Of course before this happened, I asked the guy what his status was and he said that he was negative. I knew from regular testing that I was also negative.

I allowed two days to pass (STUPID!) before going to see my doctor, mostly out of fear, guilt and anxiety. My doctor took an ab test and a pcr rna (Quant) test at around 60ish hours, and then prescribed me PEP which i started around 65ish hours after the potential exposure. All tests for STI's and the ab and pcr rna test came back negative.

I've read many resources that say that the pcr rna test can be very reliable (but HOW reliable?) 48-72 hours post exposure. Those same resources also say that a confirmation antibody test is still needed.

So here I am, a week into PEP. I don't really know what I'm looking for. A place to vent...to hear other's stories, and to seek out some advice and hopefully some reassurance. I'm not quite sure how to make it through this long waiting period, although an ample supply of benzos and a bust work schedule is helping. This forum seemed like a better alternative than googling myself to death and combing over every article written since 1998.

So there you have it. How do I stay positive (....and hopefully negative!!) through all of this? How high was my risk?

Thank you for being here.

What drugs are you using for PEP ? . There are no shortcuts to testing and you must test at 6 weeks and again at 3 months to confirm the results even if you elect to spend big bucks for a RNA test , so why bother . RNA test are used to calculate the viral load of people with HIV and not as a diagnostic tool for screening , if you use a RNA test you will still be wondering how your 3 month test will come out and you will have paid lots of money for half an answer .

The rationale that my doc used for RNA testing was that it can usually detect the virus, even at very very low levels in that time frame. Is that not true? I was pretty excited to see it come back negative...and my insurance foots the bill (lucky for me).

I'm on isentress and truvada for 30 days.
