I just found out this morning I'm positive
« on: March 01, 2014, 09:02:39 pm »
Well here I am, with nothing on my mind but just the + word. I know what I need to do next but at this exact moment all I want to do is crawl in my bed. I found this webpage and forums and that's what I've been reading all day today. I think the more I learn about this new lifestyle and the more involved I get will ease the emptiness I feel right now. Hope you all have a great weekend.

crawl in bed, sleep it off, thats totally ok. when you wake up, look in the mirror, you're still there. you, not the hiv. its just there too. learning to live with it isn't easy. take it slow. every little pain, every little problem, its probably nothing. this is the time to take a deep breath and go slow. labs/resistance profiles/measuring where you're at right now, these are the first steps. deciding on a regimen. just take it all one step at a time and don't get overwhelmed by it.

you are going to be ok. you will live with this.

welcome. this is a good place. share, cry, vent, rage, we've done it all, and it's ok.

Haha, no my stories are not a brief, but tonight I'm a bit at a loss for words.
AngelAD, if you need to crawl into bed, do it. Just make sure you back out of it and keep chugging away. The emptiness fades. Not sure if you read my first post, few threads down, but I was there with you. In some ways I still am, but I remember that this isn't who I am. You will too. This doesn't define you.
Welcome to the forum. Many people here that will support you. Keep your chin up.

Thank you very much Irish, Zach and Cars! By reading your posts I somehow feel not alone. It's hard to be sad for me since I'm always joking around. I just talked to my sister about it, she is a doctor, not in the US though, and she told me that everything will be alright, one day at a time. I think my nap helped me to calm down :D this is the beginning of the rest of my life.

A little humour goes a long way. Sometimes I even crack myself up.
You'll never be alone here, and when you really need a good laugh read and reply  to the posts in the 'off topic' section.

Hi Angel,

I'm a newbie as well, diagnosed dec 14th 2013...
I must say I took it very badly in the first weeks, had the worst Xmas of my life, and more than once I've been thinking "everything's over". I'm 39 and I was looking at my life very differently, I've always been thinking I had been lucky and I' was kind of out of it...always been careful, always safe sex... but sadly once was more than enough.

I don't want to bother you with the details, but I want to say that it changes, and day by day you will feel better. Try not to react with your instinct, be careful about the people you talk with, don't do things without reflection, even if at the beginning it's hard.

Life goes on, and in your mirror you're gonna see more and more yourself and less the virus. I remember watching my hands' veins and thinking: it's there too, everywhere in me..., but then I tried to react, found a good center where to be tested on all the secondary stuff and a good doctor I trust on.

My experience? the very first day I started haart (and I decided to start it ASAP because I really trust on early therapy after all the papers I read on latest research) I felt better. NOt phisically, actually I was already good there, but mainly psychologically: I'was doing something to fight, and that's all I could do, so I felt good with myself.

I've been diagnosed with WB still negative, so in a very acute phase (I got an acute seroconversion syndrome), and I was put in a study for a sudden haart starting.

In 1 month my numbers went from >500000 VL to 150, and from 590 cd4 to 880.

And sometimes I forget I'm +. My + friends say I'll forget it more often, and I feel it is.

Good luck, and go on finding your numbers and the phase of your infection, it will help your doctor, and yourself.

A hug from Italy.

What Hivtalian says about forgetting your positive is pretty accurate honestly. I've been having days myself more recently that it's not even on my mind anymore.
Hang in there. You'll get there, but let yourself go through the phases. You'll be ok.
