sometimes a change is good, Thomas. Is it old? Are the terminals crusty? I hear baking soda is good for cleaning them (maybe disconnect it first!?)

here's "real" thought...

remove the wires from the battery, clean the posts with sand paper

if the motor turns over, the battery is OK\

if it doesn't, you may have a bad alternator

check the crusty crap on your battery terminal first.

any more questions about motors???

god damn shit! I get shut down for my doct9or thread and yet everyone posts questions about their cars????

The short answer is no and the longer answer is "No, you big dope."  Why would you change a car battery unless it died?  Individual batteries have amazingly different lifespans.

If you're that bored come and refinish my front room floor with polyurethane.

Boo

P.S. To change a battery all you do is remove the battery clamp (if any) and remove the terminal connectors from the old battery, being sure to maintain the difference between + and - connectors.  After the old battery is removed put the new battery in place and tighten the connectors to the matching + and - terminals (or whatever they're called), with +/+ and -/- (duh!).  Replace clamp.  Start car.

You don't sound like an asshole..  Just type like one.. But that is not helping me because that is not what I am asking.

Remove a negative?  Is that black or red?  + or - ?  Come on man... I can't see in the dark can you come over and hold the flashlight?

Um, just wondering, Thomas, did you fix the battery or replace it? I heard when corrosion builds on the battery posts, it is time to replace it. I had that problem with my car battery because the corrosion stops the battery from getting a charge...Btw, I believe the - is the black one, but don't hold me to that cause I would hate to see you get kentucky fried..... ;)

A battery lifespam is like 3 years(almost all normal batteries)  Unless is a Gel battery(like Optima brand) this ones last twice than a normal battery, and have more advantages than normal ones.

When a battery needs replacement, is when it cant hold its charge,  check it with a voltmeter, if it reads less than 12V the battery is weakening and if your having trouble while starting the car, is time to change it.  Also you can check your voltage while the car is on, the voltage should read more than 13v but less than 15v in order to have a good alternator running.

Hope this helps you!!

Thomas, take it to the service station and watch them do it. Then you can stand around and watch or sit in the lobby and drink their coffee.  :)
