sexual assult, constant hiv symptoms now.
« on: March 18, 2011, 08:12:31 pm »
I was sexually assaulted which is a long story.  I found out later that the person had hiv and that there was blood everywhere.

2 weeks after i came down with a flu like illness.  The doctor confirmed that i had flu like symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes that he checked.  However i tested negative for flu.

about 1 week later most of thoes symptoms went away but i kept getting sick and having other odd symptoms such as hair falling out , numbness and heat in feet and hands black stool with undigested food in it as well as all swollen lymph nodes.

The testing i have had is extensive.  had  2 , 4 week hiv tests one blood draw and 1 orasure rapid (negative)
had a pcr-dna at 26 days (negative),  had a orasure rapid antibody test at 6 weeks (negative), had a 8 week orasure rapid antibody test (negative) , and recently had a antibody test dont at 10.5 weeks (negative).
Also had a CBC done which came back with low lymphsocytes (1500) and low white blood cells (4500).

I still feel ill and have painful lymph nodes , sore throat that keeps flaring up and just recently my uvula got really swollen.

just went to doctor and he ordered an Elisa antibody , a CBC with protein and enzyme and Hepatitis C test

How can i rule this out and what other tests do you reccomend.

Your comments are much appreciated.

There is nothing there but this post.  I have never posted here before.  I also searched the forums and found nothing.  Maybe you are thinking of someone else.    Can you answer tho?

I see that now, you post in someone else's thread. What was your possible exposure?

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. All but the very smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks after an exposure to the HIV virus.

Despite the traumatic aspects of your experience, with that series of negative test results, it is likely you are going to continue to test negative at 13 weeks.

Good luck with your latest test.

i don't know if its co-infection or someone that is delaying my seroconversion but i know i have HIV.  That was the point of the sexual assult .  TO infect me not to have the sex, from the attackers part so im sure they made sure it was blood on blood many times.

I don't think it will show up in 13 weeks but maybe at 4 months it will show positive.

Your thinking isn't fact and your 3 month post exposure test will be fact.

Frankly your thinking is all messed up about this experience and HIV, which is understandable. But your thinking has no sound basis in HIV science.

If you continue to test negative at 13 weeks then you will be confirmed as HIV negative. Your deciding you need to test at 4 months and your certainty that you're positive is just about thoughts and feelings and as Rod has pointed out is not about facts.

I don't have anything more to say beyond urging you to get some professional support about this experience and your thoughts and feelings. I do expect that based on your previous test results you will test negative again when you re-test.

If you knew the whole story you would not think my thinking is messed up.  My father beleives that i have it as well because of all the health issues and symptoms i have had.

Even the CDC says that 3 months is only 97% and on top of that all health workers who are put at rick by needle puncture , test up to and past 6 months.  If they didn't have cancer or anything then why would they test out to 6 months if it is not possible for them to convert that late.

Dagger,

The symptoms that sometimes accompany hiv seroconversion are not to do with the virus itself. They're to do with the process the body goes through while creating antibodies. If the illness you had two weeks after the attack had anything to do with hiv, you would have tested positive - probably by your four week test. And your 26 day PCR would certainly have come back with a detectable viral load. It didn't and that's because you don't have hiv.

Not every exposure results in infection. Count yourself lucky that your exposure did not infect you.

While you do need to confirm at the three month point, I certainly do not expect anything other than another negative result.

Ann ,

Thanks for the support.  I agree and hope it is not anything chronic such as HIV.  Either way i'd just like to get healthy again.

To anyone else that may read this make sure you fully trust everyone around you when you are drinking and never go alone anywhere.

For me i'm quitting drinking, something i should of done a long time ago , for many reasons including this one.

got the 3 months negative today.  I think i have hcv hiv coinfection tho because i had hcv symptoms of clay like stool and black stool for just about 6 weeks.  I also have rash that persist today.  I belive my attacker was hiv+ and therefore doctors would suggest a 6 months test.

You are HIV negative whether you are willing to accept that or not. You can continue to test if you want to although it's unnecessary.

There really is nothing else we can do for you in this setting. Again, you are HIV negative. And frankly, we're not going to argue the point with you.

If you aren't already getting professional help with the emotional aspects of your situation, I strongly suggest that you do that.
