   I have not had an attack in over 6 years so this weekend was a bit of a surprise when I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like my intestines were about to rupture. Let me tell you, the pain is incredible... so incredible in fact that you instantly cherish those moments between spasms. What makes these moments so special though is at the height of pain you instantly get hit with debilitating nausea-- and I despise nausea with a passion.

   It's all left me weak and tired. I am taking Metamucil to try to help things along but if something doesn't happen today or tomorrow I'm going to have to get mah butt to the hospital.

I totally understand. I've suffered from this condition since my teenage years. Hopefully, you'll discover what foods exacerbate the problem and avoid them. Though it's difficult. I love salads, and it's like Russian roulette. Drinking milk seems to help since I don't have a tolerance for dairy and it cleanses the system. I've also discovered that white zin alleviates the systems.

I feel you Tom -

When I had my first "diver" attack two years ago --- oouuuuccchhhh

And then the Flagyl --- yuck!

But it did the trick.

Be well - and get your butt in there for the antibiotics if it doesn't clear up soon.

Yes, I know this all to well, and I've ended up in the ER @ 3AM many many times due to this problem

The big D put me in the hospital for 5 long days in the summer of 09. It was a living hell. Now I am all about the fiber. I have only had one mini episode since then, but at least I know the symptoms now. Also I agree with poster above, flagyl and cipro work but damn are they disgusting. Hope you feel better soon! Go to the Dr/hospital before it gets worse.

Sorry Skeebs. That sucks big time.

I've never had it, but my father got it alot (usually after eating strawberries). I know the pain is bad because it would bring him to his knees. Hope it gets better for ya.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Today was pure hell and now I am running a temp on top of it. I made an appointment for tomorrow to get some antibiotics. In the past cipro has been a problem for me and to be quite honest I am scared to take it. I know you all say it's nasty, but is flagyl less so than cipro?

My mom was just telling me about her problem with this tonight. She said they told her to not eat too much ruffage (or is it roughage)--which I would have thought would be good, but I guess not. Hope you feel better soon.

I had a combo of two meds - I know one was flagyl. I did great on the flagyl for the first five days, then I got the metallic spoon taste in my mouth (that is common with it) and really had to work at being able to take it the remaining 5 days, as I would start to gag and get nauseated the minute I put it in my mouth (that's happened rarely with other things - but I won't go there - LOL). Friends have told me they put butter on the pill to make it go down better. If I ever have to take it again, I will probably try that - Plus, everything's better with butter.

I, like Phily, both times was on a combo of 2 meds. Both Cipro and Flagyl. My Dr told me taking just one was not an option. It is disgusting I will give you that. My Dr just recommended probiotics in between taking the antibiotics to help with the diarrhea. Hope you get better fast!

I got hit with this twice, the first time being the worst which ended me up in the hospital with a fever. I did get morphine for the pain which was nice. I still feel a little twinge of this now and then when I eat nuts (which is a big no no) or seeds.

I'm about to go to my doctor now for some meds to feel better. This stuff has totally wiped me out..

After the antibiotics, (I took Cipro) you might wanna eat some dairy, those antibiotics kill EVERYTHING so it's a good idea to get some of that GOOD bacteria back into your gut, I went thur this late last spring 2010

I have been lucky not to experience this.

I do know someone just now dealing with the repercussions of it. His diverticula burst, spewing nasties into his abdominal cavity.

He had to have emergency surgery and had an ostomy installed. He is now preparing to have the ostomy and the tube/bag removed because he has healed up from the first bout.

UGH.

I don't get my doctor sometimes. He was trying to convince me that this may be some sort of influenza strain that has been going around. I was able to assure him that this has been an issue for me before and he finally conceded, giving me a script for Cipro. He also wants me to get a stool sample done at the lab.

The attacks are becoming less severe and frequent as they were the last two days, so that's good. It just really tires me out and because of this I have been sleeping allot between the spells of pain. I just want to be better for this weekend because I have a trip to Disney planned for my two little girls.

   My roomate has the same thing. He gets some sort of anti biotics when he has an attack. I have seen the pain he is in when he gets an attack. Hope you feel better
