Title: Something different
Post by: aztecan on November 17, 2010, 11:44:04 pm
An interesting day. I spent sex hours in an emergency room.

I have taken others to the ER, but I don't think I have gone to one for myself in years - until today.

It started last night. I started having severe chills, fever, night sweats and my joints were freezing up. I haven't had anything like that since I had meningitis, which, I must admit, left me less than enthused.

This morning, I was having trouble breathing.

So, I reluctantly went to the ER here. I'm on the road, in Gallup, NM. I have to say they were very nice and took very good care of me at Rehoboth McKinley Christian Medical Center.

Well howdy. I had a chest X rays, copious numbers of blood tests, an EKG and, finally, a CT scan of my chest.

No heart problems, no embolisms.

I have pneumonia.

Oh joy.

They gave me IV antibiotics, plus a prescription for Levaquin.

I will feel better soon. But it came on so quickly and, naturally, while I was out of town.

I may take a day off to help me get over this. It still is painful to breathe. We'll see.

But it was an interesting day.

HUGS,

Mark

That totally sucks, Mark.  I hope you're feeling better soon.  They didn't give you an inhaler?  That may have helped you breathe better; maybe you can hit your own doctor up for one.

I had pneumonia a couple summers ago.  I remember going to see the doctor, and after he examined me etc., he asked me if I wanted him to give me a prescription for nicotine patches.  I told him my insurance didn't cover them anymore, to which he replied that they were really no more expensive than cigarettes.  I told him that in my case they were, because I was smoking roll-your-own cigarettes.  He was already looking not so very amused, but when I mentioned the roll-your-own cigs, he made the worst face.  I took that to mean they may be more harsh than regular (already rolled) cigs.

Anyway, he prescribed me an inhaler, and it helped greatly.  And no, I don't still smoke roll-your-owns. ;)

Hope, I'm sure you mean well, but as someone diagnosed after 1996, you should not be posting in the LTS forum. Please read this sub-forum's

Been there done that, did not like it at all.

Same as you and Nick, comes on very quikly and before you know it BAM!

Get better soon and make sure you're forcing lots of liquids, esp. if you're running a fever!

Poor guy;  so sorry this happened honey.  I went through the exact same thing back in the summer.  I was FINE at dinner time; but very soon afterward, I had violent chills and fever, and couldn't catch my breath; so it was 911 and a trip to the ER....the dreaded "P WORD" ( but didn't find this out until a bit later on)

I hate pneumonia -- there's nothing "new" about it !  ;)    Hope you are soon back to normal

I'm not sure that Mark's even been normal.  ;)

But I sure hope he is feeling better soon.
