My Boyfriend had yesterday a rapid test positive,he think is a false positive

Hello everybody and im glad to be here to discuss all this with members
Yesterday my boyfriend had a rapid test,we have been dating for 3 weeks but not had sex yet,i was tested 2 months ago and my rapid test was negative,i havent had any exposure to the virus,i showed him my test and he decide to do one to show it to me,he hasnt been doing unsafe sex since january with his ex partner wich he claim he always was practicing safe sex with other guys..When he got the results he couldnt believe it cause its being 8 months and he hasnt have any symptoms ,nothing that could be suspicious,the only reason he went to test was cause hes starting our relationship and want me to trust him,we both are going to throw this stressful time and we are pretty sure that this is a false positive test,on Monday he will do his second test to confirm,but looking and researching we have the conclusion that this might be due to factors..first is leaver damage since hes been treated for hepatitis B,few years ago and he hasnt check his liver after,and second could be a malfunction from the machine
He's pretty sure this is an error since his whole life his being always careful and he trusted his ex,plus We dont think he could be 8 months with the virus and never had any symptoms
I would like to share this with everybody and hear from any similar experience..I will keep everybody posted on the second test that hopefully will come negative

Get the confirmatory test done, but

He could quite easily go eight years with the virus and never have any symptoms.

I moved your thread from the I Just Tested forum into the Am I Infected, which is the only place you should be posting until this positive result is confirmed. Actually, even if your bf does test positve, YOU should only post in the Someone I Care About Has Hiv forum. The other forums are for positive people only. Thank you for your cooperation.


False positives can happen for a variety of reasons, including underlying autoimmune disease or pregnancy. The can also happen for no apparent reason, especially with the rapid tests.

He needs to have his postiive result confirmed - or denied - with a Western Blot test. You can read about the various tests by clicking on the Testing lesson linked to in our Welcome Thread
