this same alarmism which has no doubt aided all of us with newer and faster meds also is the reason for the HIV travel restrictions on visitors so many are against. The old two edged sword.

It's a correction that needed to be made years ago. It doesn't reflect any real change other than the math behind the models used. The crime will be when Right wing  Politican's start calling for reduing aid based on the  false 'succuss" we have had.
If someone tells you  potential consequences of a behavior  it  doesn't  mean they jude you or mit    they may just give a shit about you

Actually I'm pretty sure the numbers the drug companies based their investment on are those few hiv positive persons who can pay very high prices for drugs (basically those in Europe and those who are insured in the US), so the re-evaluation of numbers in India and Africa have little or no bearing on drug development.  Private corporations only ever consider potentially paying patients.
Please, just call me Berners.. or Baron.

Well yall know thats a bunch of hog shit... China, southeast asia, India, eastern Europe etc... the numbers are soaring... even in the USA the numbers are increasing at alarming rates... some countries in Africa have the least of 20% of their population to more than 60% infected with hiv... so what are the real figures? I think WHO is trying to keep people from panicking... only time will tell...

lord, are you denying that alarmists and aids activists sped up the process of getting HIV meds to the marketplace? I for one am grateful. I was just pointing out the same force that brought drugs to market quicker is probably also the reason their are restrictions on HIVers from other countries entering US. I was not saying anything about the US pharma industry.

Agreed.  But I still am grateful for the pills.
