oral group sex - how risky?
« on: June 19, 2013, 07:33:59 pm »
Hello,

Please, help me - I went to a gay club and received a blowjob from a guy who had only seconds before given someone else a blowjob, and I'm sure he had traces of the other person's cum in his mouth. I know HIV is not, in general, transmitted by oral sex but my situation was a bit different. Is there any possibility that I got infected this way, i.e. by another guy's semen in the mouth of the "sucker" getting somehow into my urethra?

I got tested 16 days after this happened (Alere Determine™ HIV 1/2 Ag/Ab Combo) - I know it was a bit too early but I just couldn't wait any longer. I tested negative but how valid are the results? 50%? 60%?

Thank you for help!  :)

Hi 55 , getting a blow job is absolutely not a risk for HIV , there have not been any reports of a person receiving oral sex being infected , ever .

There are one or two cases in 30 years where a person tested positive after GIVING a blowjob while having horrible oral hygiene with wounds or meth mouth ... and they also had other risk factors for HIV that made pinning it on oral sex dubious at best .

There have been no fewer than three separate serodiscordant couples studies (where one person is HIV positive, the other negative.) These couples were tracked for three. five and ten years. The couples used condoms for penetrative vaginal and anal sex, but NO BARRIER at all for oral sex. Any kind of oral sex.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED HIV TESTING AT THIS TIME for this incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Hi Jeff, thank you for your answer. Like I wrote earlier, I KNOW oral sex is not a threat but in my case it's a little bit more complicated, isn't it? There actually was some contact between my urethra and semen ... Don't heterosexual men get infected this way during vaginal intercourse? Maybe there's just something I don't understand in this situation and panic without reason. I also know that saliva deactivates HIV but would this fact be enough to protect me?

Thank you, again  :)

There are over a dozen proteins and enzymes in saliva that damage HIV rendering it unable to infect , that coupled with the fact HIV in semen is also damaged when exposed to oxygen makes it a no risk situation  . When we do risk assessment we always assume that the other partner is HIV positive and infectious .

Your premise of semen in your partners mouth is not a factor and you had zero risk in you situation ... this I am certain of and would tell you so if you had a risk , that is what we do .
