"Down Under" advertisers
« on: September 21, 2006, 08:01:59 pm »
Would ya'll from the "Land Down Under" please, please keep those loud people down there who advertise products that will" make our lives easier/happier/cleaner?

You sent one up here with something about the "bees-knees"  ::)  and he's so friggin annoying and loud, we f_____g hate him.  Do those people really truly think we'll buy something from them if they're loud enough to hear across the street?

Btw, wth are the "bees knees", and why should we give a doggone? :D

That is so funny Clarke.  :D

When they want to sell that kind of product down here they usually use someone with a cockney London accent, or a Manci accent. They are similarly loud and annoying.

As for the "bees knees", don't blame us Aussies for that one.  ;D

According to Wikipedia (sorry, but i'm pushed for time today):

"The bee's knees is an English slang phrase.

The Oxford English Dictionary records the expression "bee's knee" from 1797 as meaning something small or insignificant.

The phrase "the bee's knees", meaning "the height of excellence", became popular in the U.S. in the 1920s"  ;)

I say we export our "Head On!  Apply directly to the forehead!" commercial as payback.

If I hear the "Sheila's Wheels" song one more time, I'm going to throw my telly out the window, I swear. They ended up having to put subtitles on it because nobody could understand that Aussie drawl - twang, whatever the hell you call it. Gotta admit though, I have to laugh everytime I see the disgraced Joe Scully lurking in the crowd of that advert. Not only is he reduced to doing ad work, but he's reduced to being an extra! LOL

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
