Gorilla Walks Upright Like Man
« on: January 29, 2011, 02:41:36 am »
A gorilla in the UK seems to prefer to walk upright instead of using his hands/arms.  Evolution in action?  The former Canadian prime-minister was on "Real Time With Bill Maher" tonight and mentioned how we see evolution in action every day when bacteria becomes resistant to antibiotics.  Is that really evolution?  When HIV mutates and becomes resistant to meds, is that evolution?  I saw a program recently that showed evolution acting very quickly.  They showed birds that lost flight due to not needing it and a rattlesnake on some isolated island that lost its rattle, because it no longer needed it.

RE: The Gorilla Walks Upright Like Man

I am trying very hard to resist the gravitational pull to post a comedic aside.  Suffice it to say, I envision a Today show cut to the field reporter Ms. Swan (MadTV) and her take on the event.  ;D

Thanks for the other interesting bits.

I'm pretty sure a bacteria developing a resistance is adaptation and not evolution.  Evolution involves a marked difference from the original creature.

The gorilla is probably just mimicking the people he sees walking by his pen every day.

Wonder if he's single.
