Let the war begin - it's the Ashes
« on: July 07, 2009, 11:32:50 pm »
After the whitewash that was the Australian summer of 2006-07 when Australia regained the Ashes 5 - zip, the English finally get their chance at revenge on 'home' soil. I use the term 'home' lightly as the first test in the 2009 Ashes series is being played at Cardiff in Wales on a ground that has never before hosted a test match.

I generally don't enjoy cricket much, but there is something special about an Ashes series.

And once again the utter uselessness that is Ricky Ponting masterminds a new low in Australian cricketing achievements ... losing a fixture they haven't managed to lose since 1934. OOPS!  ;D

GO FREDDY! (and come back Shane, we miss you ... almost as much as the Baggy Greens do).

Edited to add:

What with that, Cadel Evans getting spanked in the Tour de France and whinging Matthew Mitcham getting spanked by a 15-year-old in the 10m diving event at the World Swimming Championships .. not a good week for the roos  :'(

Cheeky Luke,

I thought it was great to see you guys beat us at Lord's, finally... (noone in my office seems to think so, though), and at the hands of Freddy, all the better...

It may have been a bad week for the roos - you forgot to mention that wallabies lost the bledisloe cup to the kiwis on saturday night. But, it was a great weekend for the mighty mighty mighty wests tigers who reignited their finals campaign with a great win over the cowboys at leichhardt oval on a glorious sunny sydney sunday afternoon.

Cheek is the best sort of banter .. and you know there no better (secret) fantasy for a Brit than to be rolled-over by a Australian (on Manly Beach) ;)

I love the Ashes.  It's all setup for an exciting series again.  I think everyone in England has erased 2007 from the memory and only talks about 2005 haha.  I'm hoping we won't miss Pietersen much he hasn't done much so far this series.  One thing you could have guaranteed from him though is at least a couple of big scores from now till the end of the series so one of Bell or Bopara needs to step up a bit.  For the record I think because of the unpredicatible English weather I fancy a draw and the Aussies hang on to the Ashes.  I'd love to see us win it for Flintoff though.

Yeah, what happened to you guys!!!

bad karma for jeering Ricky Ponting!!! I dislike the man, immensely, but you don't boo at a cricket match. That's what footy is for - i was doing plenty of booing on Sunday as the Tigers beat the Chooks for our 5th straight win - we now sit in 7th position on the ladder. last week the silvertail scum, this week, the cocaine chooks.

You still watching SuperLeague, Chris? Brett Hodgson (ex-Tiger) is killing 'em I hear. Aren't they playing your mob soon?

And, I'm in love with Gareth Ellis - he's played the full 80 minutes in every game (he missed 2 through injury) but is yet to score a try. He came so close on Sunday - even he managed to laugh about it though. And, judging from this pic, he doesn't mind a bit of a touch up.  ;D

I'm guessing by all the cheering going on yesterday, England won!

Judging by the blissful smile on the face of the landlord of my local (which is amazing - the man's nickname is Victor Meldrew), they sure did! Hehehee... the Ashes are back!
