Long story shot
« on: October 29, 2013, 01:56:50 pm »
Thanks for taking the time to read guys, I really appreciate it!!!! This all started three years ago after an unprotected vaginal encounter (never knew the girls status). Several weeks to a month or so after the encounter I got sick, felt drug down, a fever one night, ransid cough that lasted almost a month, no rash or swollen lymph nodes. Several months later I developed two white patches on the sides of my tongue, they are still on my tongue (they come and go, I use smokless tobacco and I smoke as well), which is what drove me to this point of fear. I have had virtually no sympotms over the past few years other than my tongue. I was in a monogamous relationship for a year directly after the exposure, she is hiv negative and has a new happy healthy baby, I have been married for the past (almost 2 years) and have a happy healthy wife and daughter, both have been tested and are negative. I on the other have just recently learned about ohl and it has scared me to death, which in turn drove my wife and mother crazy about my tongue. My wife brought home the Oraquick advanced 1/2 a week ago and I took the test, thinking it would ease my mind, and it was negative.... WAIT.... NEGATIVE?!?!?! I was sure I had hiv!!!! This stuff looks just like ohl!!!! I'm not a dentist or id dr but if it looks like a duck.... Right?!?!!! So here we are today dreading this dentist appt tomorrow morning, I'm scared to death. And no, to alleviate any queations, I am a straight, otherwise healthy, 27 yr old man, and no, I have never strayed in my marraige. That rapid test threw me a bit and I'm really hoping its right. I've read SO much about false negatives its scary, my wife administered the test, she is a nurse, and read the directions very closely. I'm not going to wear this out I promise, but what are the chances of the test being wrong after 3 years? Just worried my nieveness (that being, attributing the places on the sides of my tongue to tobbaco use for so long) that I've endangered my family. And yes me and my wife have NEVER used protection and I ummm.... Well she's always been on birth control so... I never had to pull out. Just wondering what y'all think I can expect In the morning, I've literally mentally drained myself and my wife over this, am I being irrational? I've never been a hypochondriac.... Really...

You are not HIV positive as your latest test indicated.  A coating on the tongue can be caused by various conditions and many ailments are similar in appearance.  What ever the coating is on your tongue, it has nothing to do with HIV.

The oraquick and the other test you took are reliable , you do not have HIV and are worrying over nothing at this point . Your dentist or doctor can find out what in your mouth but one thing is sure , its not HIV .
