I have been having a low grade night sweat for some time now. My whole body is not sweating ..just my head and I kind of make a damp spot on the pillow. I also have been sleeping with as few covers as possible.
I looked up night sweats and , suprise suprise, there are lots of reasons for night sweats.
Some include: sleep apnea, acid reflux disease and hyperthyroidism.
Others include alcohol ( I read "sugar and carbs").
Here is a bigger list:

So, take your pick. I am prediabetic, have sleep apnea, acid reflux disease, drink alcohol and have HIV. I am anxious and take drugs for that. And the list goes on.

I'll bet my left ovary that you're pregnant. Or whatever pregnancy9 means. ;D
Oh shit... slap my ass and box my ears - I only just realised this thread is in LTS. I coulda sworn it was in OT.
Sorry! :-\

Joel, I don't believe I've heard of just someone's head sweating. If it's really bothersome I would ask the doc about it. Sorry you're going through that, though, sounds very frustrating.

Hey Joel,
Sorry to hear about the head sweats, but I've had them for years. I sweat profusely from my neck up when I sleep and my health is fine. I've asked my doctor about it and he has no explanation. It doesn't always happen, but more often than not. I have extra pillow cases that I switch out every couple of days.
I'll watch this thread in the event you find a cause, or even better, a solution.
Best of luck.

Consider yourself lucky...the only parts of my body that don't sweat at night are my legs. I can wake up in the middle of the night in a pool of sweat that soaks the sheets and mattress pad below me and whatever is on top of me. Then I'll fall asleep and wake up in the morning to a totally dry bed...with lots of tide marks where the sweat got to.
Have been this way since my 20s. All my bedding is protected by waterproofing or I'd have to get a new bed and pillows every few years. No explanation as to why I sweat like I do. I just do.
Good luck. Hope it's a passing phase for you. I gave up on that myself years ago and just learned to swim.

Ha ha Ann. Whats "OT"....online trash??? ha ha ah choo
After over 20 years of being positive, I have never experienced this "sweating" . I appreciate Killfoile telling me he experiences the same thing.

Joel, I have night sweats all the time, had them for yrs. @ least 20 of them yrs.
I went out and bought one of those memory-foam-pillows, and a mattress-pad
seems to help somewhat, my G.I. Doc says it's really nothing to worry about
as I'm UD and in somewhat good health :)
my hubby Bob loves me in the winter-time, he says I'm always warm to the touch. and he likes this very much and loves to cuddle w/ me ;) however he dose say
that sometimes, I sweat a lot @ night, and everything is damp on my side of the
bed ;)

I agree the mattress pad and memory foam pillow do help.
But this sweating annoys me. I feel like I just turned over a row of sweet potatoes.

LOL Joel ;D

I too was hoping someone would pipe in with some suggestions. I have dealt with this for some time. I guess I should consider myself lucky that only my head sweats this bad.
I concluded it has something to do with the fact that I'm always feel like I'm over heating even when sitting in a cold air conditioned room. Last summer I finally put one of those tacky window air conditioners in my bedroom so I can keep that room much colder than the rest of the house. It alleviates the sweating some.

I had this problem for awhile and for me it seemed related to my Testosterone levels and my thyroid . After I began Levothyroxine and Androgel I slowly stopped having the meltdowns at night . After my Testosterone levels stabilized I discontinued the Androgel and have been OK since .
I have a friend who his HIV neg that began sweating really bad and is now greatly improved with hormone treatment .
-
I still sweat in a air conditioned room even in my Truck with it on full-blast, however i don't have hormone problems or low-T, and never had any thyroid problems, I just have a very fast metabolism according to my doctors, they tell me, due to this I'll probably NEVER be over-weight or obese ;)

I have had some relief from the night sweats following a severe hair cut. Buzzed down to the skin.

Hey Joel,
I've had buzzed hair for like forever, because as soon as it grows too long, I start to sweat profusely. That might be your answer, short hair, since we lose most of our body heat through our heads. Maybe the longer hair impedes heat loss, so much so, that you wind up sweating. Give it a try, hope it works.

I've had this extra sweating for several years. My thyroid level was low and now on Cytomel I sweat more, not just on my head, but my head is the worst. What bugs me is that after I sweat & get damp, I get cold and put the blankets on. Then I really sweat & half the time I wake up and take them off again.
hugs, Deiby

I suffered EXTREMELY from night sweats in the 90's. I used to sleep on a beach towel in the bed, with a towel on my pillow also; and I also had a blow dryer plugged in, because I would wake up soaked and freezing.
Thank God, I don't sweat much at night anymore; just get extremely HOT. I can be fine, lying in bed, watching TV, with even a light throw on me; but when I take my meds and get ready to go to sleep, I immediately start burning up, and can't seem to get cool. We are considering a window unit A/C, in addition to the central A/C.

Hello AlanBama:
I installed a window unit this year in my bedroom so it would remain nice and cool while I sleep. I have now turned my central A/C up to 78 degrees but I keep my bedroom at a very nice 68 degrees. I did this to save some money since my local utility company keeps jacking up the price for electricity. (sorry for the highjack).
Now back to the sweating, every since I started my meds I have been a little warmer. I sweat buckets when I am outside working in the yard or exercising and I do sometimes wake up with a damp neck. My ID always inquire if I am having soaking night sweats which I don't. He did say that some people sweat on meds and it is normal. I guess it must be the battle raging inside my body.
Peace,
Billy
